Bristol Airport

Helios initially provided a full retrospective fire strategy for the existing terminal including airside and landside technical site audit assessments of the existing means of escape and construction of the existing main terminal at Bristol Airport. This retrospective strategy, post agreement with the approving authorities, has been used as the benchmark for multiple site developments and the development of the detailed fire safety design for the Terminal Transformation program.

Some of the additional fire strategies considered and included within the overall Terminal Master Fire Strategy  incorporate a major 3 storey terminal extension to the main airside retail facilities, baggage, immigration and check in facilities; a new departures pier and alterations within the main terminal to facilitate these works. Additionally the detailed phasing plans are being developed allowing the construction works to proceed for the terminal transformation whilst maintaining the highest standards of life safety in a fully operational major airport terminal.

The Imperial, London

Helios has played a central role as a key member of the design team in the comprehensive refurbishment and extension of the prestigious Imperial Hotel, located in the heart of London overlooking Russell Square. This significant project involved the complete transformation of the existing 357-room hotel, enhancing both its functionality and aesthetic appeal. The scope of the development included a full internal reconfiguration of the hotel’s layout to improve guest experience and operational efficiency. A standout feature of the project was the construction of a brand-new rooftop bar and restaurant, situated on a newly added 10th floor. This striking addition was made possible through the implementation of a steel-framed structure, which required careful design coordination and planning to integrate with the existing building fabric. In support of this major structural enhancement, an automatic water-based fire suppression system was installed throughout the building to meet the latest fire safety regulations and enable the safe development of the rooftop extension.
