Healthcare
King’s Lynn & Rackheath
Provision of two new GP surgeries. Both buildings comprises or two storeys. Helios were undertaken for concept design to handover. Both buildings were in close proximity to boundaries and one of the buildings required additional compartmentation to remove the requirement for fire rated glazing. Both buildings were built using modern methods of construction (Modular units).
Bracknell Care Centre
Helios were the fire safety engineers for the development of a three-storey health care centre in Bracknell. A qualitative design review was undertaken to determine the most suitable guidance to use between HTM05-02 and Approved Document B Volume 2. Following a review of the dependency of proposed patients it was decided to use Approved Document B for the project guidance. Due to the overall proximity of boundaries, close engagement with the architect was necessary to minimise protection to the external elevations by use of compartment walls and floors within the building whilst maintaining vertical connections to allow for open spatial planning providing the feeling of a generous sense of space.
